The beginning of the year is the time of year when many authors set New Year's resolutions: to eat better, write more, become published, or even run a marathon. While we are unable to assist you with your marathon preparations, the staff at Writer's Relief can provide you with some sound nutritional advice (and we know a thing or two about finding more time to write and being published)! Sugary foods may provide a brief rush of energy, but this will rapidly wear off, and you'll soon find yourself slumped atop a mountain of writer's block. Make a new start right away by selecting one of these healthy snacks for adults, delectable snacks that also serve as excellent writing fuel.

1. Fruit
Fresh fruit is not only nutritious, but it is also tasty! There are a plethora of alternatives: Bring a complete bag of grapes to your desk and eat them one by one, peel a few clementines—any fruit will satisfy your appetite and provide an energy boost. Perhaps you should try something you haven't tried before: kiwi or dragon fruit, for example.
2. Popcorn
It is true that we said POPCORN, and we mean it! Instead of using microwaveable bags, go old-school and pop plain kernels in a popcorn popper instead of using a microwave. With the addition of salt or other flavours, popcorn transforms into a nutritious snack that is high in fibre and lower in calories than you may expect! Just be careful not to overdo it on the butter.
3. Eggs
For writers in the zone, stopping to prepare a full meal when hunger hits may be a frustrating interruption to their work. A soft- or hard-boiled egg with a splash of salt may be a fast, delicious, and protein-dense snack to keep you going until your next meal or snack break comes around. If you have a dozen or more hard-boiled eggs (maybe a writer's dozen?) in the fridge, you'll always have a quick and easy snack on hand.
4. Hummus
Hummus is a snack item that works miracles. A flexible, satisfying, and low-calorie chickpea-based dip, this recipe is a must-try. You can be creative with the taste combinations, and there are even more healthy alternatives for what to dip it in! Pretzels, pita chips, pita bread, carrots, celery, or any other vegetable, really, are all wonderful with hummus on the side. (In addition, we should point out that it is also available in chocolate form.) Yum!)
5. Cheese
Surprise! Cheese may be a delicious and nutritious snack! However, a small mouse informed us that moderation is essential. Even if consuming a complete block of cheese is not recommended, a few pieces may undoubtedly help to keep hunger at bay. Choose a cheese that is low in fat and calories, such as feta, mozzarella, ricotta, or goat cheese.
6. Nuts
As a nutritious snack, nuts are a terrific choice since they are high in protein and need no cooking. Keep a bag on your desk and start chewing away as soon as your tummy begins to grumble! Among the many varieties of nuts and seeds available are almonds, cashews, peanuts, pecans, and macadamias.
7. Edamame
Those bags of frozen edamame you purchase at the grocery store and steam at home are a pretty wonderful snack option, even if they don't quite equal the pleasure of ordering this delightful delicacy at a sushi restaurant. What's the greatest part? Squeezing the beans out of the pods reduces stress in a way that is nearly as effective as exploding bubble wrap.
8. Pickle rolls
Although there are other variations on this strange-but-delicious snack, the fundamental recipe is as follows: your favourite sort of sliced meat, smeared with a layer of cream cheese, then wrapped around a pickle. It may seem strange at first, but don't dismiss it until you've given it a go!
9. Salsa
As opposed to a typical party dip, salsa may be used in a variety of situations. It's OK to eat it with tortilla chips, but why not experiment with dipping some of your favourite vegetables in it instead? Carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and celery are all wonderful options, as are sliced peppers and other vegetables.
10. Yogurt
Almost everyone can find a tasty alternative to entice their taste buds among the many various varieties of yoghurt and flavours available to pick from. In fact, vegan yoghurt is readily accessible in most supermarkets. In order to feed your writing muscles, grab a cup of healthy probiotics (yoghurt) and top it with your favourite toppings whenever the need strikes. Alternatively, you can use chocolate chips, crumbled cookies, or caramel syrup, but you didn't hear us say that.
