On a whole food diet, mealtimes are really rather simple. This site has a lot of recipes for well-balanced breakfasts, lunches, and supper... What about healthful snacks, though? Snacking, in my experience, is the most difficult aspect of making the switch to unprocessed foods. A strong desire for sweet or processed food arises. There are moments when you just want to go to the local convenience shop and eat every bag of junk food you see.
Sweet cravings may be intense while transitioning to a whole food diet, particularly when you're just starting out. Here are 7 delicious healthy snacks that provide the ideal finale to a nutritious dinner to help you beat your sweet desire with better snack choices. You'll note that there are a lot of bananas in this area, but who can blame me? They're naturally sweet, nutrient-dense, and quite adaptable. What would a whole-foodie do if bananas weren't available?
1. Dates with Nut Butter
This is maybe my favourite healthy snack of all time, and it's the perfect cure for any sweet appetite. Simply cut a couple of dates in half, remove the pits (if needed), and fill with a spoonful of almond, peanut, or cashew butter.
2. Tahini-Drizzled Apple Slices
What exactly is tahini? It's similar to peanut butter, except instead of peanuts, it's prepared using sesame seeds. It has a unique flavour and a creamy texture that pairs well with apples. Slice an apple into wedges and top with tahini.
3. Ice cream with just one ingredient
The old standby, this dessert has just one ingredient. To create, freeze a few bananas overnight, then chop them into little bits and process them until you have a creamy frozen treat. A few flavour options may be found in my original recipe.
4. Crispy Kale Chips with Cocoa
The second kale chip recipe is a little sweeter. I've always felt that chocolate and kale are a match made in heaven, and this recipe proves it. This nutritious unprocessed chocolate and coconut sauce that hardens upon the exterior is made with these crispy chips.
5. Oatmeal Banana Cookies
These sugar-free, flour-free cookies are so tasty that you'd never guess they're healthy. Plus, they're almost infallible — no matter how hard you try, you can't screw up this baked delicacy. They're my go-to afternoon snack, and they take less than 20 minutes to prepare, bake, and eat.
6. Chia Pudding in an Instant
You may recall the chia pudding (shown) from a previous post on this site. That one is a big success with readers, but it takes an hour or two to get it right. Blend almond milk, chia seeds, vanilla, a banana, shredded coconut, rolled oats, and cinnamon in a blender to make a variation of that dish. Begin with a little quantity of almond milk and gradually add more until you get the desired pudding consistency. Serve right away.
7. Strawberry Ice Cream With A Twist
You'll be blown away by how delicious this strawberry "ice cream" is. It is made with just 5 nutritious ingredients (frozen strawberries, dates, almond milk, chocolate powder, and vanilla) and takes only 5 minutes to prepare. It is high in antioxidants and nutrients. You get healthier the more you consume. That's the type of dessert I like. Furthermore, there are no bananas.
